It’s easy to fall into the trap of accepting suboptimal motorcycle suspension, rather than striving for the best performance possible – either because
you don’t think altering the suspension will make a significant difference, or because of the expense. But great suspension doesn’t have to cost you
an arm and a leg, as we offer various suspension services to suit your needs that take your budget into account.
These easy low-level changes can be done yourself
To begin with, there are some basic changes you can make yourself that you don’t need much knowledge of motorbikes for:
Rear suspension preload
A preload places a load on the spring before anything’s added, which helps hold the bike seat at the correct rider height for different weight riders.
If your bike is second hand, it’s likely that the preload settings have been adjusted previously, so the first thing you’ll need to do is return them to standard. With a c-spanner you can then make incremental adjustments depending on your weight, so that the fork and shock are at one-third of the way down with you sat on it. This will put you at a good height and help your suspension absorb impacts.
This controls how quickly the suspension in your bike collapses when you hit a bump in the road, so is crucial to achieving a smooth ride. In the same way laid out above, the best way to tweak these is to set both fork legs to standard suspension settings and then click and try it out until you’re happy with the results.
It’s perfectly understandable though if you’d rather not mess around with your motorbike yourself: in which case we offer the below options.
Ride in/ ride out suspension service
This service was designed to make having your motorcycle suspension set up as quick and easy as possible. We’ll set all of the damping adjustments and set up and adjust the front and rear sag, as well as checking and adjusting tyre pressures if necessary, for the affordable price of £40 + VAT.
Motorcycle suspension rebuild service
This involves taking apart and rebuilding your suspension from scratch to consider every element of it and ensure it’s in the best possible condition. This allows the suspension to be cleaned and put together again with new seals and O-rings, and for our suspension specialist to see any wear or damage that should be replaced. Having this done regularly helps you get the best out of your bike and increases its lifespan.
Motorcycle suspension revalve service
Involves the same as above, but our specialist technician will also adjust the valving on your bike to be specifically tailored to your weight, level and riding discipline. This lets you leave with the confidence that your motorcycle ride quality will be as smooth and comfortable as possible. The difference this can make can’t be overstated, particularly for older bikes, as afterwards it can feel like you’re riding an entirely different bike home.
